Building a new home – how important are relationships?
This issue came up recently when one of Coastline Homes’ new clients made the passing comment that at the beginning, when her and her husband were doing the rounds of the project display homes and talking to the sales people, Coastline Homes was the only builder that seemed interested in building a relationship with them.
“Whenever we were talking to a project home salesman, we got the distinct feeling that everything he was saying was aimed primarily at getting us to sign a piece of paper committing to build with their company. It made us feel uneasy. We didn’t know what part of what he was saying was the truth, and what part was the smoke and mirrors. It was the main reason we searched out a small personal builder”.
I thought about this comment sometime later, and with some perspective, it’s easy to understand what she meant.
If you want to build a new home, there are plenty of builders out there that can help you out. In fact the new home buyer is spoilt for choice, but I would submit that this choice, selecting a builder you trust and can form a relationship with, is the most important decision you have to make.
It’s true that house design, building experience, reputation, and price all have their place, but if you find a builder that has earnt your trust, and shows genuine interest in what you want to achieve (not just getting you on paper) then these other factors will fall into place.
When a couple come into see me about their new home, the last thing I am thinking about is how I can get them to commit in the shortest possible time.
Coastline Homes is genuinely interested in helping you achieve you goals for your new home.
We build twenty or so tailored homes for clients each year. We don’t need 40 signatures a month to survive. We have the time and energy to put into each and every home to make sure everything is the way it should be.
So, we are heavily invested in each and every client, and each and every home we build. We actually get nearly as excited as our clients about the homes we build. The homes are our passion, and our clients become our friends.
If you don’t believe me, give me a call and I will put you in touch with some of our friends who were doing just what you are doing, not so long ago.
